Habel Weinkultur, Saturday 29 September 2007

This wine merchant company has been in business since 1779, so I guess they know a little bit about the good stuff by now. Actually, I know for a fact that they DO know something about classic wines after chatting with Steven Kelly, their sommelier (and I also now know how little I know by comparison). They have opened up a gourmet restaurant in Berlin (Luisenstr. 19) where we can combine fine dining with a very interesting wine tasting. Let us not beat about the bush. It is not going to be cheap, but it will be a fixed price food and wine menu for 59 Euro per person, and that will include 5-6 courses with matching classic wines, so it not at all expensive either.

One reason why I am sending out this invitation early is because the place cannot accomodate more than 15-20 people maximum, and also because the menu is still not fixed, so if you wish to book, then you can also suggest a favourite dish or two and I'll see what I can do to get it on the menu as I have to finalise it with the cook very soon. I can't be fairer than that! Actually, if everyone wants, we can make the menu even more expensive and have stuff like lobster and Italian truffles but I think 59 Euro is a reasonable deal, which will ensure uslots of  good food and some pretty fine wines. Please do have a look on their website to see what I mean: http://wein-habel.de

The closing date for the September dinner will be August 31 and all those members who make the dinner list will be informed by 3 September 2007 latest.

Hope to see lots of you soon!

Chris

How it went on the night...

The location was really great, the room was awesome and very well laid out and the presentation of the table was excellent and all bode well for a great night of dining. And in the end, I think everyone had a really good time. But it should also be added that using the phrase "gourmet dining" to describe the food would have been stretching the facts a little and the wines are interesting insofar as they are wines that most of us would never have had the chance to try. The atmosphere was really good though as we had a good mix of new and regular members (and irregular members) and at least I enjoyed myself a lot.

Have a look at the pictures and tell me if I'm a liar! :o)
