Lounge Lizard Dinner, 30th October 2003

I had seriously thought of doing an Ethiopian dinner for this month, but I tried the place and apart from the interesting coffee (which was boiled with cloves), I must confess that I did not find the place up to our usual standards. It may be an Ethiopian tradition but I am not particularly keen on curries which have been cooked "well in advance" and stuff like that, and I'm not sure that other people will be too keen to find out what I mean. So, it's onwards to somewhere else this month. Sorry, Jens and all those who had looked forward to trying Ethiopian food.

And so it's on to a new place, just opened late last month, so, fortunately, they don't know about us yet. It's a cool place, even cooler than Kula Karma and also completely different. We've managed to arrange around 18% discount on the 3-course menus, from 27 EUR to 22 EUR, so order from the menus if you can. Basically, as I understand it, we will be dining like the lounge lizards that we all aspire to be, if we can afford it. To be honest, I haven't been there myself but someone I trust recommends it very highly for the atmosphere, especially if you like warm red colours.

So if you keen to try out a new (very) cool, fusion food place, then drop me an email asap at chris@berlindinnerclub.com and get on the October dinner list. The place is called Lola-Lounge, and it's in Rosa-Luxembourg Str. 17, the date is Thursday, 30th October and as usual, the lucky folks who make it onto the list will get a confirmation email along with details of where we will meet for drinks before the dinner. I'm not aiming for a big group, so around 10-12 diners will be enough.

If you need to know more, the restaurant's website is: http://www.lola-lounge.de/lola_main_content.html

So, drop me an email tout suite unless you prefer to stare at your TV another night.

Chris

Comments about Lola Lounge

Well, on the plus side, the food was pretty darn good even though the portions were not exactly man-size. The looks and atmosphere of the place was also pretty good as well, provided you don't mind waiting 2-3 hours for your food to arrive. Other things to note on the minus side are that the service was abysmally slow for everything so one can assume that the waiting staff were all either amateurs or had a cranky night collectively. Generally, in the end, the more patient of us had a good-ish time but it's unlikely that this place will ever get on our "must revisit" list of restaurants. It's a great pity and the over-charging on the bill doesn't help either. Oh, well. We live and learn. But if you have too much time to spare and you like to lounge around with your partner meaninglessly for hours, then you might want to think about coming here. Not me though.
