Late November Dinner at Hartmanns on Wednesday, 5 December 2007

Again, I have to apologise but I only just returned from Chile and it is too late now to organise a dinner in the month of November. Or rather, we WILL have a November dinner, but it will be done a little late in December! By the way, thanks to those people who sent me reminders about the "missing" November dinner - I have not forgotten.

And for the (late) November dinner, we will be dining at an exciting restaurant run by a young imaginative cook, Stefan Hartmann. I've eaten there before and his cooking is delicate, startling, interesting and always delicious. In my opinion, a place that is definitely heading for a Michelin star or better, and then it'll be too expensive to eat there. So that's one reason why we are going now to taste his food beforehand. At the moment, it is really not too expensive, as a full 6-course dinner is only 59 Euro excluding drinks, and he has some interesting Austrian reds on the winelist from what I recall.

If you want to see his menu, details and reviews of the restaurant, have a look at http://www.hartmanns-restaurant.de. The address is Fichtestraße 31, 10967 Berlin. The reviews are all pretty impressive, so do come along to try some fine dining before those clunky Christmas office parties! Places are very limited, about 8-10 people (and that's not even 100% confirmed as yet), so let me know as soon as possible if you are interested.

As mentioned, the date is WEDNESDAY evening, on the 5th December 2007. This is probably the last dinner for the year as I have to travel to the Far East for much of December, but we will make up for the December dinner by having 2 events in January 2008! And I'm sorry about having this dinner on Wednesday but that is the only evening I am free in Berlin in December.

As usual, if you would like to come along to this fine dinner event, please drop me an email at chris@berlindinnerclub.com by 30 November and the people who make the random selection for the dinner will be notified by 2 December latest.

See you soon!

Chris

How it went on the night...

To be fair, I thought the food was pretty good, but not quite as fine as the first dinner I had before at Hartmann's. That is just my subjective opinion and I am sure many people would beg to differ. It was a very small group of us in the end, and that made for some nice personal chats and some interesting ideas were bandied about. What will transpire next is anyone's guess. Anyway, as you can see from the pictures, the food was well-cooked, well-presented with a degree of invention. However, if they do wish to go for a Michelin star, then I think the wine list may need to be revised a bit. Overall, a good convivial evening, if a tad on the dear side.
