Good Friends (reprise) on Saturday, 18th November 2006

The November event is a perennial favourite of many members, including myself. We have done this restaurant before and we will do it again in the future. The Good Friends is by far the best Cantonese restaurant in Berlin. No-one else in Berlin comes close to real authentic food from Kwangtung province in China. But a 3 or 4 course dinner there would normally be around 40-50 Euro per person. Well, here is the very special good news. The owner and the head waiter are well acquainted with the Dinner Club and they have agreed to do a special dinner for us for a fixed price of 25 Euro per person. Actually, sorry, that is not quite true because "dinner" is the wrong word to use. In truth, they will be doing a 12-course BANQUET for us, for 25 Euro per head! And they are real Cantonese banquet specialities, not the rubbish sweet-and-sour stuff you find in other places. The exact menu is a secret as it is still being negotiated but all those that make the dinner list will get notice of it in the confirmation email. The idea is to have a good hearty event to beat away the early winter blues.

That, of course, is the good news. The bad news is that the special room where we will be having the dinner will seat only 20 persons, not more. The other thing is that this is really a special deal and everyone signing up will have to pay for the dinner, even if they don't turn up, as we have done it as a special price fixed at 500 Euro for 20 people.

How it went on the night...

This is the third time we have done a dinner at the Good Friends and it is also the most disappointing in many ways. Looks like the main chef had a day off or something. Oh well. Still, most of us had a pretty good time overall.
