May  Ankara dinner, Friday 20th May 2005

It's May and what I am doing? Writing this webpage in my dinghy office instead of sitting outside in a cafe having another beer. That is how seriously I look after this little club of ours.

Anyway, after last month's pretty spectacular Chinese feast, I thought we will change the emphasis completely over to another style of cooking. I say cooking as I am not sure that cuisine would be the mot juste for this type of food. To cut it short, Marija Brekalo has kindly volunteered a restaurant which she speaks very highly of, and that is where we will do May's dinner. The type of food is Turkish, which is something we have surprisingly never ever done before, and I know that lots of you like it, so why not?

The restaurant is called Hasir, in Adalbertstrasse 12 in Kreuzberg. This time, we already know where we will meet for drinks beforehand, at Cafe am Ufer, Paul Linke Ufer 43. Regrettably, I myself cannot attend as I have a high-level meeting in Spain that weekend, so please send your emails this time directly to Marija, who will look after you. You can trust her to do this as she is a doctor. Really. No shit.

So, for this tasty little event, please send your emails directly to xxx to book your places for this month's dinner. Oh, I should also mention that it is not an expensive place at all and I am sure you will have a good time. There is a lot of meat on the menu (cooked on a charcoal BBQ!) but I am sure you can get a salad as well, if you must. And just to make sure you have a good time, Marija has even suggested a place in Oranienstrasse for some drinks after dinner so that you can see for yourself what a quiet, genteel sort of place Kreuzberg can be at the weekend. :o)

Once again, dinner is set for Friday, May 20. We shall all meet at Cafe am Ufer, Paul Linke Ufer 43 at 19:00 and head off for dinner at 20:00 at Hasir, in Adalbertstrasse 12. The nearest U-Bahns are Kottbusser Tor and Schonleinstrasse, so it is dead easy to get to. Please email Marija directly this time, instead of me, OK?

How it went on the night

Well, it seems that everyone had a good time, better than me anyway... But, judge for yourself!
