Taqueria Evening in Berlin, 27 March 2010

I had recently come across a brand new restaurant in Berlin which tickled my fancy quite a bit, mainly because it promises to be tasty, it's pretty inexpensive and most of all, it sounds like a fun unusual place to try out.

So for March (just after the official start of spring), we will be trying out Berlin's newest taqueria right in the heart of Mitte. The place is called Tipica at Rosenstraße 19 / Ecke Rochstraße, so it is quite close to Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt. It only opened for business since February so it is very new on the scene and I generally like the concept because I am quite fond of a good taco. If you don't know what a taqueria is, look it up on wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taquería and if anyone wishes to check out the menu at Tipica, it is on www.tipica.mx.

The dinner is set for the evening of 27 March, so please put that date in your diary now. I don't know how many places they can hold for us, so as usual, get your emails to me asap if you fancy trying out Berlin's newest (and only) taqueria! Closing date is Friday 19 March and all those who made it on the list will be informed by 23 March.

See you all soon!

Chris

How it went on the night...

I would give this place maybe 6.5 out of 10. The service was pretty OK, the wine was pretty OK, the food was also pretty OK, and the ambience and decor was also pretty OK. So there was nothing to complain about, which is always a good thing. On the other hand, it was not so spectacular that one feels compelled to come again and bring the gang along. But overall, it was a pretty pleasant night and everybody met some old friends and made some new ones. Also, it was very good to see Wei Yen again, who came up all the way from Magdeburg to meet with us! After the dinner, some of us braved the doorman at the Riva Bar and somehow I ended up in Erdbeer near Rosa-Luxembourg Platz. Oh well...
