A Gourmet Dinner Cruise Around Berlin on the Eintracht, Saturday, 24th June (BOOKED OUT!)

Instead of being stuffed inside yet another restaurant during summer in Berlin, Ann Hahn has kindly suggested organising a cruise around Berlin in a old cruise boat that is celebrating its 100th birthday, the Eintracht. Ann has obtained a very special deal just for us and, subject to the weather, it really should be a great evening out, especially as we have a special surprise fixed-price gourmet dinner (including wines) organised onboard as well!

The plan is that we shall be leaving from the old docks in the Fischer Insel, then cruise in cool mode around the Berlin canals and bridges for 3 hours, while having a top-class dinner/buffet from the best food that Einhorn can offer and the best matching wines that Ann can pick. The whole event includes the food and wines, and we have the boat from 19:00 to midnight, including an hour to chill out after the dinner and cruise. Later on, well, I am sure we can find something to do around the area, provided we can still move.

Everything above (gourmet dinner, great wines, cool cruise) is included in the fixed price of 45 Euro per person, so, believe me, it is a spectacular deal. All the above is the good news. The bad news is that the Eintracht, being a very old boat, can only carry a very limited number of passengers, so we have only 22 (twenty-two) places maximum for this event. 7 of these places are already allocated, so if you want to come, please let me know as soon as possible. Also, as all the costs for this event are fixed beforehand for the boat, food and wines, we will have to insist that every person booking pays in advance as otherwise it would be most unfair if anyone booked a place and did not turn up as the others will have to subsidise the missing people. This is going to be a popular event, so let me know quick please, ok? Otherwise, you will only be able to read about it afterwards and that, believe me, is not nearly as much fun as being there! :o)

How it went on the night...

Putting it simply, it was a great night out! The boat looked tiny but it was cosy and comfortable and the food was high-quality catering grade. The only pity was that the boat was too small to accommodate the second tray of prawns so that had to be left at the dockside. The beef tafelspitz was excellent, considering that it's one of my least favourite dishes. The cold asparagus salad was just great as well, crunchy yet juicy and done with a lovely simple dressing. The finger food suffered a little from being prepared a little too early (as was to be expected since the cooks are German and Germany was playing!) but it was still very palatable. The wines were excellent, a lovely Spanish Picos for the red and a beautiful summery Diel del Diel for the white. Only 18 people on board were drinkers and we still managed to finish 26 bottles of wine, and 4 bottles of the Picos had completely disappeared, never to be found again. Oh well...

Again, I have to personally thank Ann Hahn very much indeed for doing all the arrangements for such a wonderful evening!
