La Bonne Menue, Saturday 21 August 2010

This will be a simple invitation as we have organised another special deal at a highly recommended French restaurant and so I will let the menu below do most of the talking (I am busy writing this at work too). The menu includes wine as well so I think it is really a darn good deal as it is a decent selection, it's classically French and it's not at all expensive for what you get (even mineral water and coffee is included).

The restaurant is La Bonne Franquette in Chausseestrasse 110 so it is easy to get there. If you wish to check it out, the website is http://www.labonnefranquette.de/ and some reviews are on http://www.qype.co.uk/place/1224078-La-Bonne-Franquette-Berlin

So all you have to do if you want to come along is simply drop me an email asap (by Monday 16 August latest), remit 42 Euro via uberweisung (but only when I reply to you) and turn up for a great night on Saturday, 21 August. Oh, and the restaurant also asked to know if you want the cheese course, so please tell me if you want this extra option (I'm having it myself). And this time, unlike last time, I will come to the dinner for sure, barring any bizarre acts of nature.

What could be simpler? All the lucky people with confirmed places will be notified by Tuesday 17 August latest. And I am more hopeful that there will be enough spaces for everyone this time as places for the last dinner was very limited (for which I apologise).

I hope you are all looking forward to a great night as much as I am.

How it went on the night...

We had congregated at a weird sisha bar after breaking a few glasses (for which I left a few euros as I did most of the breaking), we managed to get out in time for the restaurant.

At the restaurant, we had been put into a private dining which is nice apart from the fact that every sound was echoed and magnified about 5 times. So if we wanted a conversation, we had to shout louder and louder as other people started talking as well. Hmm.

The starter was a magnificent seafood terrine, moist, original and very tasty. My main was the steak which was extraordinarily wholesome and filling but after sampling Caroline's fish, I wish I had gone for the even more juicy, tasty dorade. But it was still a close call. Dessert was a nice soft-centred chocolate cake, which would be considered excellent at any restaurant, even if it was overcooked by 1 minute or so. I had the cheese plate as well, which was really delectable too.

The wines were plentiful and they laid on more than we can drink, as Dirk eyed mournfully the unopened bottles on the way out. To make the night even better, the restaurant provided complimentary schnapps, so it was a very generous night in terms of food and the quality of the dining. Some of us even got rather more than a single schnapps, according to rumours. Oh well.

Er, on the next day, a not-too-distant neighbour called Angela Merkel had an open day at the Bundeskanzleramt and I met her. I know you won't believe me so I include some extra pictures here to prove it. So there.
