Gugelhof, Saturday, 25 August 2007

President Clinton had his dinner here, so do I really need to say more than that? I bet he wished he brought Monica along though because what is really good about Gugelhof (Kollwitzplatz/Ecke Knaackstraße 37) is that they have not gone overboard and sent their prices skyrocketing after that dinner. Still, it is not Berlin's cheapest restaurant but the prices are really very reasonable, around 32 Euro for a pretty good-looking 4-course menu. They also have a very interesting selection of German red and white wines, although I would recommend the French 2001 Haute-Cotes de Nuits, a simple elegant Burgundy which is not too extravagantly priced. But if you want to be pleasantly surprised, go for a bottle of 2003 Spatburgunder "Vitus" from Dr Heger. This scintillating red is really decent value for money as well. You can check out their website on http://www.gugelhof.de for the wine list and menu.

Places are limited for this event (around 12 or so, as the restaurant is always fully booked weekends) and the closing date for applications is Saturday, July 28th, as I will be away for much of August so I would like the final list resolved before I go. All those members who make the list will be notified by 30th July 2007 latest.

Hope to see lots of you soon!

Chris

How it went on the night...

As I wasn't there, I can't really say, but on balance, I was reliably informed that everyone had a pretty darn good time.

The pictures below are courtesy of Matthias, so thanks a lot!
